In 2018, at age 56, Dan Matis suffered a massive stroke that left him unable to walk. Rejecting immediate surgery, Dan sought alternative healing methods, inspired by his father's struggles with similar health issues.
He discovered Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's study on plant-based diets and radically changed his eating habits, focusing on healthy, homemade meals.
A friend introduced Dan to a doctor in Mexico City who used nutrient injections to activate stem cells, significantly boosting Dan's health. Relocating to Playa Del Carmen, Dan continued his recovery with daily walks, diet refinement, and holistic practices.
A health expert later guided him through a rigorous detoxification process, including green juices, a grape-only diet, and fasting. Despite the challenges, this regimen helped Dan lose significant weight and detoxify his body.
With support from his friend Alan, Dan integrated spiritual practices, meditation, and breathwork into his routine.
Astonishingly, even though his arteries remained blocked, Dan's body naturally formed new arteries to ensure blood flow. This remarkable adaptation allowed him to regain full mobility and achieve better health than ever before.
Inspired by his recovery and a phoenix necklace from his mother, symbolizing resilience, Dan founded The Phoenix Project. Initially involved in "Feeding Empty Little Tummies" in Florida, Dan continued his philanthropic efforts in Mexico, distributing food to those in need.
The Phoenix Project expanded to support individuals facing trauma, depression, addiction, and more, providing holistic assistance and community support.
Our Mission: Learn, Heal, Nourish
Learn:We educate both children and adults on healthy eating, growing nutritious food, preparing wholesome meals, holistic healing, and essential life skills. We provide valuable knowledge to help individuals make informed choices about their health and well-being.
Heal:We support individuals in putting these practices into action to heal physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our goal is to address issues from the root, whether it’s trauma, depression, anxiety, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, or obesity.
Nourish:We focus on mastering these practices to maintain a healthy lifestyle and encourage others to do the same. By fostering a supportive community, we aim to create a domino effect of positive change, helping more people to learn, heal, and grow.
