In 2018, at the age of 56, life brought Dan Matis to his knees.
A massive stroke left him unable to walk. Doctors urged immediate surgery.
But in that quiet, terrifying moment… Dan listened to something deeper.
A whisper from within said:
There’s another way.
He remembered watching his father struggle — and he knew he didn’t want to repeat the same story.
So Dan made a different choice. He chose to trust his body.
To believe that healing was possible — not through force, but through alignment.
And so, the journey began.
He turned to food as medicine. Herbs. Wholesome, conscious meals.
He returned to the kitchen not just to cook — but to nourish himself back to life.
And then, the right people appeared. A doctor in Mexico City. A path of nutrient therapies.
A place in Playa del Carmen where he could rest, walk, breathe, and begin again.
Dan committed fully — body, mind, and spirit.
He embraced daily routines: high-tech therapies, movement, breathwork, meditation, and spiritual reconnection.
He cleansed. He fasted. He drank green juices and lived on grapes for days at a time.
Dan immersed himself in learning. He discovered Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn’s work on plant-based nutrition and the idea that food can be medicine. He began exploring herbs, natural remedies, and wholesome, intentional eating. He returned to the kitchen — not just to cook, but to heal. Every ingredient became a choice toward life, energy, and clarity. Then came a series of serendipitous encounters — the kind that only show up when you're walking the right path. A friend introduced him to a doctor in Mexico City who offered nutrient injections designed to stimulate stem cell activity. After just a few treatments, Dan felt a significant shift in his energy and mobility.
He moved to Playa del Carmen to dedicate himself fully to recovery. There, he added daily walks, refined his plant-based diet, and dove deeper into holistic practices. He began exploring breathwork, meditation, and spiritual alignment — reconnecting with parts of himself that had long been silenced. And he didn’t stop there.
He released weight — physically, emotionally, energetically. And every day, he supported his healing with powerful tools:
💨 Hyperbaric oxygen therapy to restore and regenerate.
💡 Light therapy to calm his system and lift his energy.
✨ BEMER therapy to reawaken circulation and cellular vitality.
🦶 Ionic foot baths to draw out what no longer served him.
He was healing — not just his body, but his story. With the support of his friend Alan, Dan began to look inward. He remembered who he was. He remembered why he was here.
And then… the miracle. Though the damage from the stroke remained, Dan’s body adapted. Blocked arteries didn’t stop him — new ones formed. He walked again. He laughed again. He came back to life.
And with a small phoenix pendant from his mother resting on his chest, he made a vow:
I will rise — and I won’t rise alone.
That vow became The Phoenix Project
A space born not from theory, but from lived experience.
A place where we walk beside you — with the same faith, the same love, the same tools that helped Dan come back home to himself.
This is our origin.
This is why we’re here.
And we’re here for you.
The Birth of The Phoenix Project
The Phoenix Project didn’t begin as a concept — it began as a calling.
After walking his own path from breakdown to breakthrough, Dan knew one thing with certainty: this wasn’t a journey meant to be walked alone.
What had carried him — the therapies, yes, but also the courage, the connection, the sense of being
held
— needed to be shared. Not as a protocol, but as a living, breathing community of care.
It started with simple acts of service — food drives, support circles, quiet offerings in both Florida and Mexico. But the ripple kept growing.
Today, The Phoenix Project is a sanctuary for those ready to reconnect with their vitality — a place where science meets soul, and healing becomes a collaborative unfolding.
We bring together advanced technologies like
hyperbaric oxygen therapy, light therapy, PEMF, and detox protocols
with grounded holistic practices, compassionate mentorship, and a nourishing environment.
Not to fix.
But to remember wholeness.
We believe healing is personal, powerful, and never linear.
At The Phoenix Project, we don’t diagnose or prescribe your path — we walk beside you as you rediscover it.
This is not about “doing more.”
It’s about coming home to yourself.
Dan’s journey lit the fire.
But the rising — that’s for all of us.
Welcome to The Phoenix Project.
Come as you are. Leave with more of you
